Noah Levy’s Shaving Diary

Every year there seems to be a new announcement about how beards are “in” and then again six months later how they are “out”.  Regardless of whatever facial hair trends seem to be in high demand I have always had five o’clock shadow or a short beard.  I only really shave with an non-electric razor and shaving cream about every other week on my entire face because my skin loves to freak out, break out and burn in response.  Life just isn’t it?

So I decided to document my shaving process and also two products that I highly recommend.

Dr. Carver’s Shave Butter
After shaving with an electric razor I sometimes like to go over everything with a moisturizing cream and use a razor. Lately I have been using Dr. Carver’s Shave butter. It’s not shaving cream, it’s shave butter.  Notable ingredients include: Golden Barley, Organic Prickly Pear Cactus, Pacific Sea Algae, Black Willow Bark, Vitamins A,C,E and Oat Extract.
Price: $8, Available at

Then if thats not enough I will give myself a facial by one of my favorite skin care companies: Mario Badescu.

Mario Badescu’s Enzyme Revitalizing Mask

I have been using this mask recently after I shave to help my skin recover and also as a great deep cleaning product. It rejuvenates dull, lifeless skin and includes papaya and grapefruit enzymes that break down dead skin cells, dirt, and oil to reveal a smooth complexion.

To use: Apply a thin layer to freshly cleansed skin, leave on for 15-20 minutes and rinse. This mask can be used 2-3 times a week.
